Customer Spotlight: The King House Restaurant & Bar

The King House Restaurant & Bar Interior

The King House Restaurant & Bar brings quality to the table with its exceptional staff and emphasis on house-made dishes. The bright open space offers a large dining room, bar, lounge area, and outdoor patio.

Adam and Tara King’s restaurant may be new to Delano, but the two have resided in the area for over 10 years. “Tara and I were keen on opening a restaurant where we live. This community has a lot of restaurants, but very few of them focus on cooking from scratch,” explains Adam.

Once the right building became available at the right time, everything fell into place for Adam and Tara. The King House Restaurant & Bar on Highway 12 has been open for almost three months.

When it comes to their menu, The King House has a variety of options, including steak and pasta. “We love seeing our customers get excited about the food. We work hard in order to make people happy,” Adam says.

Adam has always worked in a restaurant and, ultimately, aimed to run his own. He was a cook throughout high school and the four years he spent at Montana State University. Prior to opening The King House, Adam worked at Café Lurcat in Minneapolis for 14 years, spending 13 of those as the Executive Chef. Tara also worked at Café Lurcat as a server until the couple welcomed their second daughter.

Long-term, Adam is excited to find more time to be with his family. “The commute might be my favorite part of the job! Now that I work so close to home, I’m able to run home to see my kids during the day,” he says. “Before this, I worked quite far away with long hours, so I barely saw my family Monday through Saturday.”

The amount of staff available compared to downtown is slim, which can make hiring difficult. “There’s a lot more competition downtown, but there’s also a lot more staff available. It can be difficult to find new cooks, especially with local culinary schools recently closing,” explains Adam. “I’m very proud of the staff we have assembled at The King House. Our restaurant couldn’t succeed if we didn’t have people willing to work as hard as they do.”

Adam and Tara prove to make a great team. “Tara works here just as much as I do, but she seems to get overlooked at times,” Adam mentions. Besides managing an expert serving team at The King House, Tara also helps juggle their kids’ schedules, including getting them to their activities year-round. “I couldn’t do this without her,” he adds.

For Adam and Tara, banking at Minnesota Lakes Bank not only serves as a convenience due to location but also comes well recommended due to its community ties. Adam has family that banks at MNLB and has been told by numerous people in the area to meet with an MNLB Business Banker. He says, “Tara and I appreciate banking with a family-owned company that knows Delano and its community members so well.”
